The island of El Hierro is the westernmost tip of the Canary Islands in the southwest of it. It has an area of 278 km ², encompassing a wide variety of landscapes, from arid lajiares and volcanic formations of the South and West, to the spectacular valley of El Golfo with extensive vineyards and irrigated agriculture, through fertile farmland the centre and north of the island, and meadows of the central plateau and the landscape of fruit trees adapted to the peoples of central and south of the island.
